Inspiration and Change

There were so many things I wanted to write about this month, but life got unexpectedly busy both personally and professionally.

Busy as I am, I still want to mention and celebrate that June 26th is the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage.

I remember how joyful that day was. I spent hours on a newspaper website reading the comments and well wishes from people all over the world. In my household we celebrate June 26th every year with cake and champagne.

Whenever the topic of same-sex marriage comes up, I remember the story a coworker told me back in the 90s. Her aunt was a lesbian, and she died alone in a hospital, her partner of more than twenty years was forced to remain in the waiting room. They weren’t married so the hospital would not allow them to be together in her room. The senseless cruelty of that incident has haunted me ever since.

By legalizing same-sex marriage, this and countless other obstacles, large and small have been removed but it’s important to remember how far we have come, to continue fighting for progress, and to honor it.

In other news, the move I was hoping to make next year got moved up to next month! Life is (for now) all about packing, planning, and research.

I have never been to the city I’m moving to, but it ticks all the boxes on my list of a desirable place to live. Well, almost all of them. I’ll be two hours away from a major airport which is inconvenient but manageable.

Staying on top of my day job while managing my book business is challenging right now. During all this, I had my first book signing. It was not a success from a sales standpoint, but I learned how to set up an event and I enjoyed interacting with the folks that stopped by. I’m looking forward to doing more of these types of events.

I’ll write more in the coming days as things progress. Happy Pride.

Thanks for reading.
